SUMMARY:An Evening with Maine Author Chris Packard
DESCRIPTION:The Pittsfield Public Library and the Ann B. McGowan Maine Writers Series are pleased to present an evening with author Chris Packard.\n\nChris Packard of Bangor will be sharing stories from his book Mythical Creatures of Maine\, which examines all aspects of over 40 mysterious creatures in Maine. Have you ever heard of the weewillmekq or pamola? Come learn more about these mysterious beasts and the legends that surround them.\n\nChris is a full-time high school science teacher at Bangor High School. He is also a trail runner\, swordfighter\, storyteller\, and outdoor adventurer. When not teaching\, writing\, or wandering in the wilds he can often be found on his small homestead in Hampden\, Maine gardening\, raising chickens\, and spending time with his wife and two sons.\n\nPrior to taking up teaching and writing he worked as an ecological restoration technician\, field biologist\, naturalist\, and outdoor educator. He has earned some pieces of paper that say things about degrees in biology and education. But most of his learning has come from his passion for discovery and his drive to bring people together.\n\nThis talk is suitable for all ages and is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:An Evening with ME Authors and Publishers: Claire Ackroyd\, Clif & Laurie Graves and Brook Merrow
DESCRIPTION:The Pittsfield Public Library and the Ann B. McGowan Maine Writers Series are pleased to present an evening of roundtable discussion with Maine authors and publishers Claire Ackroyd\, Laurie and Clif Graves\, and Brook Merrow.\n\nClaire Ackroyd’s well received debut novel\, Murder in the Maple Woods\, tells the tale of a suspicious death in the maple woods of Northern Maine. Laurie Graves has written a series of young adult fantasies centered on the powerful Books of Everything\, and the mysterious Great Library. Brook Merrow’s young adult novel Trapped is a coming-of-age mystery that touches on themes of identity and belonging\, will keep you guessing to the end.\n\nLaurie\, Claire and Brook have all taken disparate paths to publication. We’ll spend the evening hearing about the journey each author took in creating their works\, as well as in the process of becoming published. Clif and Laurie will speak to running an independent press (Hinterland Press)\, as well as what it takes to self-publish\, while Claire and Brook are familiar with the Maine Authors Publishing process.\n\nWe’ll have a round table discussion with plenty of time for audience questions. If you’ve ever thought of writing – and publishing! – a book\, this will be the event for you. This event is free and open to the public.\n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Maine Author David Rosenfelt to Benefit the Somerset Humane Society
DESCRIPTION:The Pittsfield Public Library and the Ann B. McGowan Maine Writers Series are pleased to present an evening with Maine author David Rosenfelt to benefit the Somerset Humane Society Animal Shelter in Skowhegan. David is donating his speaking fee to the shelter\, and we encourage those attending the talk to bring in items from the shelter’s wish list (found here: https://shsanimalshelter.com/animal-shelter-donations/)\n\n\n\nDavid calls himself “a novelist with 27 dogs\,” and his Andy Carpenter mystery series is filled with both dogs and his signature humor. David began writing after a career in Hollywood that culminated in becoming President of Marketing for Tri-Star Pictures. Along the way\, he and his wife found time to start the Tara Foundation and find homes for more than 4\,000 dogs – 25 of which moved cross-country with them when they relocated to Maine.\n\nUSA Today writes\, “In Shamus Award-winning author David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter novels\, a reluctant attorney and his faithful golden retriever face a dog-eat-dog world. An unabashed animal lover\, Andy has a reputation for saving both dogs and humans from Death Row. With the help of his beloved dog Tara\, Andy solves cases and wins courtroom battles in this acclaimed series of legal thrillers. This humorous and heartfelt series is “a treat for dog lovers\, but it’s also a great way for mystery lovers to spend time with a terrific storyteller.”\n\nThe library is thrilled to offer patrons their own chance to spend time with a storyteller par excellence\, all to benefit the Humane Society.\n\n\nThis talk is free and open to the public in the Warren Community Room. David’s books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

SUMMARY:Chewonki presents Scales & Tails!
DESCRIPTION:Using live\, non-releasable reptiles\, this program will compare these species and discuss their adaptations.\n\nMany people conjure up images of slimy skin and bloodthirsty monsters when they hear the word “reptile.” This hands-on program works to dispel some of those fears by allowing students to examine snakeskins\, turtle shells\, skeletons\, and other unique reptilian artifacts.
