SUMMARY:Robert Klose: A Tale of Two Adoptions
DESCRIPTION:UMaine faculty member Robert Klose joins us on Thursday\, May 7th at 6PM in the Warren Community Room to share the challenges\, highs and lows of adopting two sons as a single father. Even though single women routinely adopt children\, adoption by a single father is uncommon and was met with significant resistance. It took over three years to adopt his first son\, Aloysha\, from Russia\, and adopting a second son\, Anton\, from the Ukraine was equally fraught.\n\nCome hear Robert’s firsthand account of the intricacies of international adoption. Perfect for anyone considering adoption\, or who has gone through the process themselves.\nThis program is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:An(other) Evening With Arend Thibodeau
DESCRIPTION:The Ann B. McGowan Maine Writers Series and the Pittsfield Public Library are proud to present a second evening with local Maine writer and photographer Arend Thibodeau. Most recently\, Arend is the author and photographer of Maine’s Military Might and The Aroostook Arms Race\, which capture in photographs the remains of Maine’s past strategic importance to military maneuvering.\n\nArend will present a fascinating slide show of his photographic work\, as well as discuss his books\, copies of which will be available for sale or signing at the talk. His award-winning photography has been featured in galleries as far away as Greece and he has been published in multiple genres ranging from wildlife to portraiture. As a writer\, Arend has published poetry\, non-fiction\, and academic works. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Literature and he holds a membership in multiple honor societies\, including Sigma Tau Delta\, The International English Honor Society. SUMMARY:Come learn Kinusaiga with us! Registration required\, 12 and older only.
DESCRIPTION:Come learn the art of kinusaiga (Japanese no sew fabric art) with us! There is no teacher for this class – instead\, expect a group of people united by a desire to figure this craft out together! Librarian Jill has completed a few projects\, though\, so she sure knows a bunch of things not to do!\n\nIn kinusaiga\, a pattern is drawn onto foam board and then scored. Fabric scraps are then placed over the sections and the edges tucked in\, creating the look of stained glass with fabric! This is a great craft for using up fabric scraps.\n\nThe library will supply foam board and adhesive (for a smoother look)\, as well as some fabric scraps. Please bring a seam ripper or letter opener\, fabric scissors\, utility knife\, a simple stained glass pattern and fabric scraps with you.\n\nThere is no fee for the class\, but preregistration is required as class size is limited to 12. Participants must be 12 or older.

A visit to the ancestral graveyards was my destination. Recalling the generational stories\, the memories as I stood upon the Deane Homestead\, the land\, buildings\, orchard overcome by time and by nature. The only evidence of a neighborhood that once flourished near Varnum Pond in Temple\, Maine were the stones; gravestones and crumbling stone walls.\n\nInspired by the swaying branches\, by our family roots deeply planted on this land\, the ancestors of the Deane family must not be lost in time\, but remembered. In Echoes from Deane Mountain\, the reader follows Jennie’s story\, a journey back to thisland\, back to the place of childhood\, her troubled heart seeking.\n\nInspiration builds and may be found in the writing of a first book\, as it was for the creation of the second\, Threads of Deception—Elizabeth’s story\, a story of Aroostook County. To complete the trilogy: Simon’s story is a work in progress.”\n\nBeverly will have her books available for sale and signing at the event\, which is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:An Evening with Maine Author Kristen Clanton
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Ann B. McGowan Maine Writers Series and the Pittsfield Public Library are proud to present an evening with local Maine novelist Kristen Clanton. Kristen teaches humanities at MCI and coaches cheerleading when not writing.\n\nKristen’s debut work is the young adult horror novel The Swallows.
