An Evening with Maine Writer Corey J. Cook

Corey J. Cook is an Indigenous American author from the Mi’kmaq Tribe whose work explores survival, loss, and the unseen forces that shape who we become. Drawing inspiration from the wilderness of Maine and the deep-rooted traditions of the Mi’kmaq people, his writing blends raw realism with spiritual depth, where the line between the physical world and the unseen is never quite clear.

His debut novel, Ghost Father, Wild Son, follows a young boy forced into the unforgiving wild after tragedy, where survival becomes more than endurance, it becomes transformation. Cook’s stories are known for their grit, emotional intensity, and unflinching honesty, pulling readers into landscapes that are as dangerous as they are sacred.

Beyond writing, Cook is deeply connected to themes of resilience, mentorship, and personal struggle. His work reflects a belief that the wilderness does not just test a person, it reveals them.  He writes for those who understand that some journeys are not about finding your way back, but about becoming something new.
